Stamford's
Mill River Park is to under go a long awaited renovation and expansion.
As of
December of 07, Stamford was awarded 7 million from the Federal government.
For the first phase of the project Stamford will be investing approximately
8M into the park. The Mill River will
be narrowed
to less
than half its
existing
width;
this will increase the land in the park and make space for amenities. This is an exciting master plan which calls for a carousel, a magnificent fountain, an ice skating rink, numerous cherry trees, piers and a network of trails connecting the greenway with Kosciuszko, Southfield and Scalzi parks. Mayor Malloy hopes to have the dam opened by the end of 2008. Removing the Dam, will solve some recent flooding concerns and open the river to fish that swim up from Long Island Sound. This is a key piece in the master plan and will pave the way for the park development that has been long awaited. |
